Why Exploarations? When we are in school we spend much of our time learning about things that we are told we have to learn. But, we should also spend some time exploring who we are and what interests us. Sometimes in school we have the opportunity to ‘put our own stamp’ on a project. Maybe we can decide how to do a project–write a poem, design an experiment, create a piece of art. Or perhaps we can choose a topic. In either case, if we know what we like to do, what our talents are and how we spend our spare time, it will be easier to make such decisions.

What are your talents? What are your interests? How do you spend your spare time? Is there anything you would like to learn more about?

My Explorations

My favorite singer is Keb ‘Mo. I may have mentioned him in class once or twice… A picture of Keb ‘Mo taken by Brian Ledgard (found using Flickr-Creative Commons) follows. Keb ‘Mo is a blues singer who I first heard at a Jackson Browne concert. I’m very happy that I got tickets to go see him this August as a Mother’s Day present (great seats too!!!).

When I’m not listening to Keb ‘Mo (or while I’m listening to Keb ‘Mo) I spend a lot of my spare time on the computer. I prefer to use my Mac Laptop. My Mac is much faster to use than my Windows desktop. I usually wind up using my windows machine to test any programs I plan on using in school since our school computers use the Windows XP operating system. I am constantly trying to learn new computer programs or figure out new ways to use programs that we already use in the lab.

I also spend a lot of my free time reading. Sometimes I read non-fiction books about Keb ‘Mo (no just kidding..I haven’t found any Keb ‘Mo books yet) but mostly I like to read mysteries. I can’t fall asleep at night unless I read something and say a prayer. I also read every morning for ~45 minutes before I go to work.

I also like to hike. Most of our family vacations are spent in National Parks, exploring forests and mountains.

I like playing basketball–although I must admit I rarely spend much time on our backyard court. Swimming is another activity that I like (I was a lifeguard when I was a teenager…a great job that I would encourage you to train for—just remember to use sunscreen) that I don’t get a chance to do too often.

My favorite stores are book stores and I could easily get lost in a library for a day (I actually have a book with pictures of libraries from around the world!).

I like playing computer games and some video games although I’m not very good at role playing games like Zelda, etc.. (I can never figure out what I’m supposed to do next…talk to a rock?..You’ve got me)

I think one of my talents/strengths is that I like to learn new things. I was very lucky to have parents who taught me that there is nothing I can’t learn if I try hard enough.

I kan’t spill to sav my life! (HA HA).
